Chung Bong Forms are the signature forms of the “Ever Youthful House of Martial Arts Training”, or Song Moo Kwan. Chung Bong 1 is the Yellow / Gold belt form.
These forms are considerably more challenging and potent than the Taegeuk forms we also study. At this point on your journey, we encourage you to learn as much as you’re able and will train in these forms as you progress; but they are not explicitly necessary to advance at this time. These forms are the pinnacle of Song Moo Kwan’s teaching — and mastering them will only aid in your embracing the teachings of the school.
Our friends at Karate North have contributed this video through YouTube; as time goes on we may also produce our own. Until then, please enjoy watching this clip!
Chung Bong 1
As you can see; there are several additional variables in the Chung Bong forms versus the Taegeuk form, particularly at this level. They are similar in the fact that they usually mirror initial movements on the opposite side or position. This is to ensure mastery of both left and right sides of the body. The ways in which they differ are many; two of which include the different starting ready stance (joon-bi), and the punches are intended to strike the opponent’s jaw as opposed to their solar plexus. This may seem repetitive, but make sure that you know the rules of the dojang prior to testing for Gold Belt!
